This was quite a fun and challenging project, and introduced me to quite a few tools and techniques. I began by turning day into night and obtaining a mask of the individual, and of the window. The window was fairly simple, I used a luminance mask with just a little clean-up. As for masking out the individual, I ended up using a combination of rotoscoping, luminance and color masking. Placing the night sky into the window was fairly straightforward, and the fire was a decently simple simulation. To get the fire to cast shadows, I made a quick and rough model of the windowsill and my arm on the wall and added that into the composition. Getting nice light-wrap around the individual took quite a while, but I am pleased with the result.
